My LA Adventure

My Los Angeles
 Adventure. xo

I can still feel the utter excitement and anxiety of watching my car get picked up
at a local supermarket parking lot back home in Newburyport as it made its
journey to the West Coast. Pablo the truck driver was 3 hours early when he called me
at 5:45am and said that he was on 95 and would be here in 20 minutes. I ran out of
bed in attempt to make myself look not look like E.T. and drove my Toyota Camry
that was filled with pictures, clothes, fake plants, coffee table books and more clothes
to be picked up and shipped to California.

Seeing my car lifted onto the truck was one of the first times that it actually started
to settle in that I was moving my life to the opposite side of the country to pursue
a dream in Fashion and Entertainment. LA was everything I expected it to be but
definitely an adjustment. I wouldn't necessarily say I've been "sheltered" but have
never had to make a big transition like moving to a big city all by myself before.

Navigating this huge city, meeting new friends and networking is hard as well as
building a name for myself in a city were so many come here with big dreams
and they let them crumble because they get caught up in the "Hollywood lifestyle".
I for sure have my fun but make sure I keep my eye on the prize and work
hard everyday.

I have a love hate relationship with Los Angeles; the opportunities are endless,
the weather is amazing and I've met some amazing people here, but the traffic is
horrendous, it is a little more laid back than I like, and I miss my family and friends.
Coming here has been an experience that is amazing/challenging/scary/exciting,
and the six months I've been here have flown by. While I do not yet have my own
TV Show or Clothing Line like I one day dream of having, I have had some amazing
experiences as well as some that were not so pleasant (borderline embarrassing,
upsetting and stressful).

Allow me to share with you some of my peaks & pits of
my adventure in Los Angeles..

Scoring my first interview/audition for a Fashion Reality TV
Show only to leave an impression on the producers by
being walked to the door and falling down a WHOLE flight
of stairs in front of everyone because my heel slipped on the floor.
I played it cool as everyone thought I probably broke my leg and
walked out where I was convinced I broke my butt (can you do that?)
and cried in the car til I was able to laugh about it 5 minutes later.

Nailing two amazing Fashion Internships!
*One with a Fashion PR Firm right at the start of award
season were I got to see the in's and the out's of the
fashion chaos during The Oscars and The Golden Globes.

*And another with a great Celebrity Fashion Stylist we we
dressed some of Hollywood's favorite Television and
Movie Stars for red carpet events, magazine shoots
and TV appearances.

Becoming Best Friends with a fellow intern from Paris where
we spent our time indulging driving around exploring the city,
pulling pranks at the office, hiking, drinking (how did we end up
at The Abbey?), lounging poolside, dancing, pulling more
pranks, meeting new friends and eating froyo.

Meeting and being in the presence of some of my
idols (world famous fashion stylists) at events or
just out and about. Something I love about this city
is you never know who your going to meet or run
into whether your going out to dinner or getting your cup
of morning coffee.

Being in 489572 fender benders and having my car broken
into twice in three months, once on my birthday. Woof. Who ever
said Massachusetts drivers are bad have never seen people drive in LA.
Absolutely Terrible.

Waking up the morning after I got here and going for a
hike by myself at the famous Runyon Canyon was a great moment.
I got there on the early side (Most of LA doesn't wake up until 10am)
so it was pretty quiet and standing near the Hollywood Sign and
looking over the city gave me a huge feeling of accomplishment that
I had arrived and was ready to start my adventure.

I have had such amazing experiences and met
so many great people in the 6 months that I have lived here,
I know that the next 6 will only be filled with more
excitement, lessons to be learned and great opportunities.

Thank you so much for following my journey!!

Capsule Collection Edition:
Roland Mouret for Banana Republic

I am a firm believer that when a woman slips on a
beautiful dress and her favorite heels, she can conquer
the world. I was introduced to Roland Mouret
by a coworker and have been in love ever since.

As soon as the word hit the streets that Roland Mouret
was teaming up with Banana Republic to release a
capsule collection, I needed to know every detail possible.
What were the pieces like? What was the inspiration behind the
collection? Mouret is already known for his figure
flattering and classic pieces so teaming up with
long time fashion pioneer Banana Republic, I knew
the outcome would be fabulous.

Here are a few of my favorites! And don't forget
to indulge and treat your closet to these amazing pieces
when they drop August 7th online at www.bananarepublic.com!

There are a few things girls can never have enough of.. Figure
flattering pieces and Little Black Dresses. This collection is made
for real woman who love fashion but value comfort.
These dresses will make you look and feel like a million bucks, without
breaking the bank.

StyleFile: What's Inside My Beach Bag

StyleFile:
What's Inside My Beach Bag

Remember the days where the only problem about going to
the beach was finding a ride? I vividly remember
the calls back and fourth with my girlfriends in the mornings of
summer as we scrambled to find an adult to give us a ride...
A parent, older friend or that one person in your group of friends
who got their license before everyone else even though they weren't
suppose to drive anyone but family for 6 months.. Those were the days..

As I've gotten older I've for sure seen my beach bag change..
At first all you needed was a towel and you'd be happy (sunblock? No
Thanks Mom I want to be tan when I go back to school in September!!)
Now I have a handful of items I will never go to the beach or pool without.
From a chic beach towel, the perfect sunnies, healthy snacks and skincare
products, these are my go-to items that you'll find snuggled inside my
beach bag..

A.  Natori Beach Towel $35 - You always need a cute towel but
nothing too busy.  If yours still has a dolphin or Elvis on it, I say it's
time to go shopping.

finding the perfect beach bag I like to choose something neutral and
on the larger side. You can take this to the beach and afterwards to lunch,
and the quality is great so you won't be having to replace it next year
if you take good care of it.

C. COOLA Sunscreen $36 - It wasn't until a couple
of years ago I really started paying close attention to sunscreen
and how important its use is. All brands definitely aren't the same
and finding the best one for you will make you want to wear it more.
I was introduced to this brand, COOLA, 3 months ago and fell in love.
It smells amazing, is organic and alcohol free and is even
antioxidant infused. Being in the California sun can do a toll on your skin
so I always make sure I lather this stuff on when I'm going for a jog,
out and about or just driving around.

D. KIND BAR $1.99 - It wouldn't be my blog if I didn't mention
food in one capacity or another. Laying in the sun can definitely be draining
so making sure you have a healthy snack that you can keep in your bag is
important. My favorite snackeroo are KIND BARS because they are packed with
protein and good carbs and are so yummy! The Almond and Apricot
one is my absolute fave!

E. Bottega Veneta Sunglasses $465 - While some girls are "shoe" or "purse"
girls, my guilty splurge is sunglasses. I could never have enough and anytime
I see a pair I really love I must have them!! Over sized is definitely the way
I go but my favorite shape Is the cat-eye (a slight cat-eye with a more round
shape). Protecting your eyes from the sun is so important so investing in a
great pair of sunnies is key. Not a day goes by I don't wear my sunnies
(shine, rain, snow, you name it) so I always have enough pairs to
last me a while.

F. EOS Lip Blam $5.99  -  I never used to carry lip balm on me
(only lip gloss) until I moved to LA. The air is different out here and
it is ALWAYS sunny (not complaining) so I am always re-applying
this stuff. It's the perfect size, smells delish and easy to apply.

G. Smart Water, Liter $2.99 -  No matter what I always like to have
at least a liter of water with me when I hit the beach or pool. Staying hydrated while
your in the sun is key and it doesn't hurt that it does wonders for your skin.

H. PACIFICA Indian Coconut Nectar Body Butter $15 - One of my
best girlfriends wears this all the time and it wasn't long before I got
addicted as well. Imagine the beach and sunny weather with a hint
of coconut and that's what it smells like...Heaven!

Hope you enjoyed reading!
